The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) has taken the decision to relieve head coach, Rui Vitoria, of his duties following the national team’s elimination from the 2023 African Cup of Nations.
This verdict was reached at a board of directors meeting on Sunday, highlighting the end of Vitoria’s term which has been overshadowed by the team’s inability to progress to the quarterfinals.
The decisive moment leading up to this dismissal was the team’s elimination from the tournament after losing in a penalty shootout to DR Congo.
The disappointment of an early exit from the competition played a pivotal role in the EFA’s determination to part ways with the Portuguese coach.
With the conclusion of the African Cup of Nations, the Egyptian Football Association has commenced the search for a new head coach to lead the national team in future campaigns.
It is worth noting that Vitoria took over the role in July 2022, succeeding Ehab Galal, and was under a four-year contract which has now been terminated. His contract was originally set to expire in 2026.
