Arsenal’s hopes of progressing to the Champions League quarter-finals suffered a blow as they were stunned by Porto with a stoppage-time goal from Galeno in the first leg of their last-16 tie.

The Brazilian winger scored with a wonderful curling finish that left Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya no chance. This late goal from Galeno gave Porto the advantage as they head into the second leg.

Porto dominated the game and should have been ahead with Galeno hitting the post and then somehow putting the rebound wide. Nico Gonzalez also had a powerful strike that sailed over the bar in the first half.

Despite dominating possession, Arsenal failed to register a single shot on target, with William Saliba and Kai Havertz both heading wide from corners.

The Gunners will have the chance to turn the tie around in the second leg, which will take place at Emirates Stadium on 12 March. They will be aiming to reach the quarter-finals for the first time since 2009-10.

This defeat is a setback for Arsenal, and they will need to improve their performance in the second leg if they are to progress to the next round of the competition.
