President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo remains optimistic that the Black Stars will regain their former glory.

In recent matches, the senior national team has performed poorly, exiting the last two Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) campaigns in Cameroon and Ivory Coast at the group stage without a single victory.

In 2021, the Black Stars finished at the bottom of their group, and the trend continued in 2023 with another bottom-placed finish.

At the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, the Black Stars once again disappointingly exited at the group stage after finishing at the bottom of their group following three matches.

During his State of the Nation address, President Akufo-Addo expressed his confidence that the Black Stars will bounce back and bring pride to the nation.

“I have no doubt that the Black Stars will rise up and make us proud again,” he affirmed.

The Black Stars are set to return to action in June as they resume their 2026 World Cup qualifiers with a doubleheader against Mali.
