Ghana’s Sports Minister Hon. Mustapha Ussif has expressed his disappointment with the recent performances of the Black Stars at major tournaments.

The four-time Africa Champions has failed to meet expectations in the last three tournaments, being eliminated from the group stage each time.

Prior to the setback at AFCON 2023, the team also suffered early exits at AFCON 2021 and the World Cup 2022.

During a session in Parliament, Ussif Mustapha emphasized that the Black Stars’ performance in the last three tournaments is not acceptable given the significant investments made by the government in the team.

“The Black Stars’ performance in the last three major tournaments, namely the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon, 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, and 2023 AFCON in Cote D’Ivoire, where Ghana exited at the group stages of all three tournaments, notwithstanding Government’s continuous huge investment in the team, is not acceptable.”

The Black Stars were unable to progress past the group stage in the recently concluded 2023 AFCON tournament, which saw Ivory Coast emerge as the champions.
