Black Stars can only thrive if we focus on colts and inter-schools football – Samuel Inkoom

Former Ghana international Samuel Inkoom has offered his thoughts on how to revive the struggling Black Stars team, following their disappointing performance in the recent Africa Cup of Nations.

After crashing out of the tournament at the group stage, Ghana’s wait for an AFCON trophy has now stretched to 43 years. The team failed to secure a single victory in the group stage, finishing in third place with just two points.

During an appearance on UTV, Inkoom, who honed his skills in colts’ football, emphasized the need for the government to prioritize youth football as a key strategy for reviving the Black Stars and Ghanaian football in general.

“If we want to see the Black Stars succeed in the future, we need to focus on developing young talent from the grassroots level, such as colts football and inter-school competitions,” he expressed on UTV.

When questioned about the shift of attention away from youth football, Inkoom pointed out, “The Black Stars are widely celebrated and attract significant sponsorship, but we mustn’t forget that these players emerge from the grassroots level.

This is where many of us got our start – myself, Emmanuel Agyemang Badu, and John Pantsil all came through youth football.”
