Former Ghanaian national team player John Painstil has emphasized that the Black Stars are currently in a stage of rebuilding. He has therefore called on Ghanaians to be patient with the team.
The Black Stars did not meet expectations at the recent 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, as they were eliminated in the group stage. This marked the second consecutive early exit for the four-time African champions.
During the tournament held in a West African country, Ghana failed to secure any victories, drawing two matches and losing one.
Speaking on UTV’s United Showbiz, Painstil stated, “When we talk about the Black Stars and their current performance, we must remember that they recently returned from the World Cup in Qatar, where they qualified for the tournament. They also had a significant victory in Nigeria.”
He added, “We need to recognize that the team is still in a rebuilding phase, with new faces being integrated into the squad.”
John Paintsil represented Ghana at the 2006 and 2010 FIFA World Cups. He was also a member of the squad that reached the finals of the 2010 AFCON.
