Gifty Oware-Mensah, Chairperson of the Black Queens Management Committee, has assured the players will receive their overdue bonuses before their upcoming game against Zambia.
The much-anticipated two-legged Olympic Games qualifiers are fast approaching, with the first match scheduled for February 23. The Black Queens are on a quest for their debut Olympic qualification, following their successful re-entry into the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
Despite their recent achievements, the players are still waiting to receive the bonuses promised to them from the qualifiers. Reports indicate that each player is owed between $7,500 and $10,000.
Oware-Mensah revealed in an interview with Joy Sports that discussions have been ongoing with relevant stakeholders to address the issue.
“The Black Queens have been patiently awaiting their bonuses for a while now. The outstanding payments also include what is owed to the Black Princesses. However, we have been in talks with GFA President Kurt Okraku, Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif, and the Ministry of Youth and Sports. They have given us assurances that the funds will be disbursed to the players before our next match. We are hopeful and have confidence in the commitments made by the Ministry,” she stated.
Notably, under the guidance of head coach Nora Hauptle, who was appointed in 2023, the Black Queens have achieved an impressive record, with victories in all but one of their games.
