Ghanaian defender Jeremie Frimpong has expressed his strong interest in joining English Premier League giants Liverpool. The talented right-back has been turning heads with his impressive performances for Bayer Leverkusen in the ongoing German Bundesliga campaign.
Frimpong’s superb form has captured the attention of several top clubs in Europe, including Manchester United and Real Madrid. He has scored seven goals and provided six assists in 21 appearances for Leverkusen in the Bundesliga, making him one of the most sought-after players in the league.
The former Celtic star has been a key player for Leverkusen, contributing significantly to the team’s success as they currently sit at the top of the Bundesliga standings with 58 points, eight more than defending champions Bayern Munich.
Liverpool are in the market for a new coach following the decision of Jurgen Klopp to leave the club at the end of the season. Reports suggest that the Reds are seriously considering Bayer Leverkusen’s current coach, Xabi Alonso, to take over the helm at Anfield.
In an interview with Ziggo Sport, Frimpong expressed his admiration for Liverpool, saying, “A great club, with history. That would be great. Who knows what the future will bring?”
Frimpong has come a long way since coming through the academy at Manchester City and subsequently making a move to Celtic in 2019. After an 18-month spell in Scotland, he joined Leverkusen in 2021 and has flourished under the tutelage of Xabi Alonso.
With the prospect of Alonso potentially taking charge at Liverpool, Frimpong’s desire to join the Reds could become a reality as he looks to continue his development at one of the biggest clubs in Europe.
