Ghanaian-born Portuguese striker Asumah Abubakar-Ankrah was given a red card in Grasshopper’s 1-0 loss to FC Zurich.

The match took place at the Stadion Letzigrund on Saturday afternoon with Abubakar-Ankrah starting in the game.

The initial stage of the game was defined by nervousness and fierce duels on both sides. In the 12th minute, there was a heated exchange following a foul on Daniel Afriyie, which led to the red card for Abubakar-Ankrah after he committed an act of violence against Beldian Krasniqi during an altercation.

With the advantage on their side, FC Zurich forced the Grasshopper Club to pull back and remain inactive. It wasn’t until the 25th minute that FC Zurich had their first major chance, with Nikola Boranijasevic firing a left-footed shot just over the crossbar.

Antonio Marchesano secured a 1-0 lead for FC Zurich in the 38th minute after confidently converting a penalty following a foul on a Zurich player in the box.

Grasshopper will now be preparing to face Basel on 17th February at the Letzigrund Stadion.
