Asante Kotoko midfielder, Richmond Lamptey, has opened up about the valuable lessons he gained from his experience at the Black Stars camp during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

The 26-year-old disclosed that he learned the importance of patience and waiting for his time, as well as the need to increase the level of intensity when in possession of the ball.

In an interview with his club, Lamptey shared, “When I joined the Black Stars camp, I learned so many things. Football is not about rushing, it is about patience. If you rush when playing football, you’ll make mistakes. I’ve also learned that when you are on the ball, your intensity should be high.”

Despite considerable calls for Lamptey’s inclusion in the squad during the tournament, head coach Chris Hughton did not field him in any game. He was one of three local players named in Ghana’s final squad for the tournament held in Ivory Coast.

Ghana’s campaign in the 2023 AFCON ended in disappointment as the Black Stars failed to progress to the Round of 16, finishing third in a group that included Cape Verde, Egypt, and Mozambique. The team suffered a 2-1 defeat to Cape Verde and recorded back-to-back 2-2 draws against Egypt and Mozambique, resulting in their elimination from the competition.
