The 13th African Games have been rescheduled and will now be taking place from 8th-23rd March, 2024 in Accra and Cape Coast, Ghana. The event, which was originally set for 2023, was postponed for a year. The games will feature 30 sporting disciplines, with the exception of women’s football, which will be held in Cape Coast, while all other disciplines will take place in Accra.
Of the 30 disciplines, eight will serve as qualifiers for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. These include wrestling, tennis, cycling, athletics, swimming, badminton, table tennis, and triathlon. In addition, six disciplines will be showcased as demonstration sports, including pickleball, sambo, E-sports, mixed martial arts, scrabble, and speedball.
The competition will be held in ten different venues spread across Accra and Cape Coast, giving participants and spectators the opportunity to experience a variety of locations. This diverse arrangement will contribute to the overall excitement and appeal of the event.
