Afcon 2023: SA FA boss Danny Jordan hails players for remarkable achievement

South Africa Football Association (SAFA) President, Danny Jordan, has commended the players for their impressive performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations despite failing to reach the finals.

The Bafana Bafana were unable to progress to the final of the competition, losing to Nigeria in a penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw in extra time. Nigeria opened the scoring through Williams Troost-Ekong, but South Africa equalized in stoppage time through Teboho Mokoena.

Following the match, Danny Jordan expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance at the tournament. He praised the players for their efforts and acknowledged that they had established themselves as a formidable force in African football.

Looking ahead, Jordan has set his sights on avenging the recent defeat against Nigeria in the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers. He remarked, “Your performance is one of the best in many years of our football. You have established yourself now. This Nigerians are coming to us in June in a World Cup qualifiers, we meeting them again.”

With the 2026 World Cup qualifiers on the horizon, South Africa will have the opportunity to redeem themselves against Nigeria and continue their quest for international success.
