Alhassan Suhuyini emphasizes that Ghana’s mere participation in the Africa Cup of Nations does not bring pride to Ghanaians.
Ghana has faced disappointment at the last three major tournaments, failing to progress past the first round.
In both the 2021 and 2023 AFCONs, as well as the 2022 World Cup, the Black Stars did not win enough games to advance, with just one victory in the World Cup group stage.
During a discussion in Parliament regarding Ghana’s AFCON budget, Suhuyini expressed, “Participation is not sufficient to bring us pride considering Ghana’s football standing.
“It is indeed a disgrace for the national senior team, the Black Stars, to exit the Africa Cup of Nations at the group stage.”
Ghana’s failure to secure a place in the Round of 16 came after finishing third in a group alongside Cape Verde, Egypt, and Mozambique.
The Black Stars suffered a 2-1 defeat against Cape Verde, followed by back-to-back 2-2 draws against Egypt and Mozambique, sealing their elimination from the tournament.
