The President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku, has expressed his disappointment with the performance of the Black Stars in the ongoing 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.

Ghana was unable to progress beyond the group stage, failing to secure a single victory in their group matches. The team managed two draws and suffered a defeat, finishing in third place in Group B behind Cape Verde and Egypt.

This marks the second consecutive AFCON tournament in which Ghana has been eliminated at the group stage, following a similar exit in 2021.

Speaking at the ‘Meet the Press’ event, Okraku expressed the efforts made by the FA to support the team and their disappointment with the outcome.

“Ghana was represented by our beloved Black Stars. The tournament did not unfold as we had hoped, and as football officials, we are disappointed with the team’s performance,” he said.

“As an FA, we provided all the necessary support and logistics for the team, but their performance fell short of our expectations. It has been over 40 years since Ghana last won the AFCON title, and our goal is to bring that trophy back to Ghana. Unfortunately, it did not work out this time,” Okraku added.
