Nigerian captain William Troost-Ekong has extended his congratulations to Ivory Coast for their victory in the 2023 African Cup of Nations.
The Ivory Coast team emerged triumphant over Nigeria at the Stade Olympic Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Abidjan, coming from behind to secure a 2-1 win and clinch the title on home soil on Sunday night.
In the first half of the much-anticipated match, William Troost-Ekong scored the opening goal, giving the Super Eagles the lead going into halftime.
However, Ivory Coast put on an outstanding performance, rallying from a goal down to snatch a 2-1 victory and claim the tournament trophy.
Franck Kessie scored the equalizer before Sebastien Haller secured the winning goal in the 81st minute of the match.
Following the game, William Troost-Ekong, who was named Player of the Tournament, offered his congratulations to their West African rivals for their title win.
“I want to congratulate Ivory Coast. We gave our best and it’s been a fantastic tournament,” he said after the game.
