Guinea-Bissau parts ways with manager Baciro Cande after disappointing AFCON campaign

After a disappointing campaign at the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations, Guinea-Bissau has decided not to renew the contract of manager Baciro Cande.

Cande’s departure comes after seven years in charge of the national team, marking the end of his tenure next month.

Despite leading Guinea-Bissau to four consecutive AFCON tournaments, Cande was unable to secure a win in any of their 12 finals matches under his stewardship.

The recent AFCON event has seen numerous coaching casualties, with heavyweight managers like Egypt’s Rui Vitoria, Ghana’s Chris Hughton, and Algeria’s Djamel Belmadi also leaving their posts.

Cande leaves behind a solid foundation for Guinea-Bissau, but his replacement will face the task of rebuilding the team, starting with the upcoming AFCON qualifiers.

While Cande’s tenure saw Guinea-Bissau make significant progress, the football federation is now looking to a new coach to lead the team to greater fortunes.

Despite the recent disappointments, Cande’s efforts have helped Guinea-Bissau become a noticeable presence in African football, and the country now looks towards a coach who can build on his work and bring new ideas to the team.

It is an exciting time for the future of Guinea-Bissau’s national team, as they aim to move forward and achieve success under new leadership.
