Equatorial Guinea’s top player, Emilio Nsue Lopez, has made the decision to retire from international football with immediate effect.
The veteran footballer made the announcement after an impressive performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.
During the tournament, Nsue stood out as one of the top players in Ivory Coast and played a crucial role in Equatorial Guinea’s journey to the Round of 16.
He finished as the tournament’s top scorer, netting five goals and earning the Golden Boot Award.
Despite his achievements on the field, Nsue was suspended by the Equatorial Guinea football association for misconduct. Following his suspension, he publicly accused officials of corruption within the association, alleging that they were embezzling funds while the players were giving their all on the pitch.
In the midst of this controversy, Emilio Nsue Lopez has decided to call time on his international football career at the age of 34.
