Executive Council member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Dr Randy Abbey has expressed his disappointment with the Black Stars’ 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) campaign, labeling it as disastrous.

During the 34th edition of the AFCON, Ghana suffered an embarrassing group phase elimination.

Placed in Group B, the Black Stars finished 3rd with two points after losing to Cape Verde and drawing against Mozambique and Egypt.

“We had a disastrous campaign. All the stakeholders I have spoken to recognize that some things did not go right,” he mentioned on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana.

“What happened should never happen again. We must take the necessary steps to ensure that we do not have a repeat of this. This country and its people do not deserve that,” he added.

The disappointing performance led to the dismissal of Chris Hughton and his technical team. Furthermore, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has formed a five-member committee to recommend a new coach to the Executive Council.
