The Local Organising Committee (LOC) of Accra 2023 African Games has intensified their awareness campaign by taking it to Kumasi, the Ashanti regional capital, as part of their efforts to promote the event, scheduled for March 8-23 in Accra.
During the J.A. Kufuor Cup Match between Asante Kotoko and Nsoatreman FC at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi over the weekend, the LOC was fully involved in promoting the event. The cup match was organized to honor former President John Agyekum Kufuor and raise funds for the J.A. Kufuor Foundation, and the LOC of Accra 2023 was one of the major partners.
The LOC sponsored over 10,000 Senior High School students from the Ashanti Region to attend the historic match, all of whom were wearing T-shirts promoting the Accra 2023 African Games. Furthermore, the LOC also sponsored the Player of the Match award with a beautiful trophy, which eventually went to Steve Mukwalo of Asante Kotoko.
Dr. Kwaku Ofosu Asare, the Executive Chairman of the LOC, expressed his privilege to be part of the initiative to honor the former President and stressed the importance of the Games being in Accra, while also emphasizing the need to take the awareness campaign to Kumasi to sensitize the people about the event. He extended an invitation to the people of Kumasi to participate in the competition, highlighting the significance of the Games as the most important sporting event on the continental calendar.
The LOC is looking forward to hosting one of the most successful events in the history of the competition. The Ashanti region, known for producing a majority of the nation’s sports talents, is expected to play a significant role in the success of the African Games.
With over 50 countries and 7,000 participants expected to compete in 30 sporting disciplines, the African Games will take place from March 8 to 23, 2024.
