Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, criticized the Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, Perry Okudzeto Oduro Sarfo, over his public disclosure of the budget for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament to be hosted in Cameroon.
Ablakwa expressed his discontent with Sarfo’s decision to reveal the budget and stated that it could have been kept confidential for strategic reasons.
Ablakwa went on to say, “You can rave, bark, growl, do whatever, you need to respect the rules that govern financial expenditure, especially when the nation is preparing for such a major international tournament. It was irresponsible for the deputy minister to expose such sensitive information and he should be held accountable for his actions.”
The revelation of the AFCON budget has sparked controversy and debate within the Ghanaian sports community.
Many have questioned the implications of such public disclosure and whether it will affect Ghana’s participation in the tournament.
