The race for the two African spots at the Paris 2024 Olympics has reached its climax with the final four teams now confirmed.

Morocco, Nigeria, South Africa, and Zambia have emerged as the last standing teams vying for a chance to represent the continent at the prestigious event later this year. Interestingly, these four teams were also the representatives for Africa at the last FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Nigeria’s Super Falcons secured their spot in the final round after defeating Cameroon 1-0 over two legs, while reigning African champions South Africa secured a commanding 4-0 aggregate win over Tanzania to set up a crucial encounter with Nigeria.

Ghana was involved in a thrilling battle on Wednesday night against Zambia. After a narrow 1-0 victory in the first leg, the Black Queens faced the Copper Queens in Ndola. A late goal by Barbra Banda secured a 3-3 draw for Zambia, ultimately pushing them through to the next round with a 4-3 aggregate victory.

In a North African showdown, Morocco outperformed Tunisia with a convincing 4-1 victory after initially winning 2-1 in Tunis. This victory puts Morocco, who recently made their World Cup debut, in a promising position to secure another qualification for a global tournament.

The final round of qualifiers will see South Africa taking on Nigeria and Zambia facing Morocco in two-legged fixtures scheduled to take place between 01 – 09 April 2024.
