Ghana’s Medeama SC remains at the bottom of Group D of the 2023/24 CAF Champions League, despite CR Belouizdad holding Al Ahly to a goalless draw in a matchday four outstanding game at the 5 July 1962 stadium in Algiers on Friday.
The clash between the two sides marked the sole fixture of the week due to Ahly’s FIFA Club World Cup commitments, leading to the postponement of their scheduled match against the Algerian side.
With both teams securing a crucial point, the group’s standings remain highly competitive, with two more rounds of fixtures left to determine the top two teams advancing to the knockout phase.
Ahly maintains their lead at the top with six points, followed closely by CR Belouizdad and Young Africans, who are level on five points each. At the foot of the table sits Ghana’s Medeama, trailing the leaders by just two points.
CR Belouizdad and Ahly are now in line with the other 16 clubs in the group stage and will resume their competition schedule next weekend, featuring enticing matchups as Africa’s premier club competition returns with vigor.
The Algerian side will visit Young Africans, their fellow contenders with 5 points, while Ahly will travel to Ghana to take on Medeama, who may be at the bottom but have the potential to upset the reigning champions on home turf and alter the group dynamics.
