Former Minister of Youth and Sports, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah has criticized Asamoah Gyan and the Black Stars squad for their behavior during the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

During an interview with 3Sports, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah expressed disbelief at the players’ refusal to train before their final group game unless they were given physical cash.

There have been allegations that Asamoah Gyan deliberately missed penalties during Black Stars games because of political affiliations, with claims that it was influenced by the party in power at the time. Elvis Afriyie Ankrah highlighted this issue and called on Ghanaians to make their own judgments.

He stated, “I don’t know whether it was political, but Ghanaians can decide for themselves whether it was political for a professional player and his teammates to demand physical cash before training. Ghanaians can assess whether it was a political move or just a display of indiscipline. I don’t have the answers.”

Furthermore, South Dayi MP Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor recently made allegations against Asamoah Gyan, claiming that the former Black Stars captain deliberately missed a penalty kick during the 2010 FIFA World Cup quarterfinals against Uruguay because of political reasons.

“He intentionally missed that penalty at the 2010 World Cup because the NDC was in power then. He intentionally missed, for the glory would have come to the NDC. Asamoah Gyan is now part of Dr. Bawumia’s campaign team. There is everything wrong with that,” the MP alleged during an interview with Radio XYZ.
