Erling Haaland overcame a personal tragedy to play against Copenhagen.
The Manchester City striker’s grandmother, Tone Rasdal, passed away at the age of 80 over the weekend. The news of her death came on the same day that Haaland scored two goals against Everton in the Premier League. It is not clear whether he was aware of her passing before or during the match.
Haaland’s grandmother died peacefully in a Sivdaheimen nursing home, and her funeral is expected to take place next week. The striker did not find the back of the net against Copenhagen in the Champions League fixture but did impress fans with a stunning acrobatic attempt. After the game, he posted on social media, keeping his sentiments fully focused on football.
City won the game against Copenhagen 3-1 thanks to goals from Kevin de Bruyne, Bernardo Silva, and Phil Foden. Manager Pep Guardiola alluded to Haaland’s body language not being good during the first half of the match against Everton. He suggested that the two goals the striker scored would help him clear his mind.
Haaland will need to maintain a positive mood, regardless of whether he scores. Guardiola advised him to learn to have the right body language and remain positive even if he doesn’t score.
