Tragedy struck the MMA world as UFC legend Geane Herrera passed away at the age of 33 due to a fatal motorcycle accident. Known for his remarkable career that included winning 10 out of 13 fights, Herrera had left a lasting impact on the sport.
Reports from TMZ revealed that Herrera met with the tragic accident in Tampa, Florida, just a week before his 34th birthday. The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles stated that the flyweight collided with another vehicle at a high speed, leading to his untimely death.
Survived by his 16-year-old son and girlfriend, who is three months pregnant, Herrera’s family shared heartfelt words on a GoFundMe page, expressing their love and loss for the departed soul.
Having debuted in MMA in 2011 with a victory over Andrew Connors, Herrera went on an undefeated streak with eight wins in the octagon. This success earned him a UFC call-up in 2015, although he faced defeats against opponents like Ray Borg, Joby Sanchez, Ali Bagautinov, and Ben Nguyen.
Tributes poured in on social media as fans and fellow fighters mourned the loss of Herrera. Borg, in an Instagram post, remembered him as a good guy and extended his prayers to Herrera’s family.
With his final MMA fight taking place in 2018, where he emerged victorious against Darren Mima, Herrera also ventured into bare-knuckle boxing and secured a win in 2021 against Abdiel Velazquez.
