Ex-Houston Rockets star Robert Reid dies aged 68; cause of death ruled as cancer

It is with great sadness that news of the passing of NBA star Robert Reid has been confirmed. The former Houston Rockets guard died at the age of 68 after a battle with cancer.

Reid spent 13 years in the NBA and was known for his contributions in guiding the Houston Rockets to their first two NBA Finals appearances in 1980-81 and 1985-86. The Rockets announced the news in a statement, acknowledging Reid’s instrumental role in the team’s success.

During his career, the 6’8″ guard/forward played in 919 NBA games and scored a total of 10,448 points. Reid was a second-round draft pick in 1977 and spent 10 seasons with the Houston Rockets, as well as playing for the Charlotte Hornets, Portland Trail Blazers, and Philadelphia 76ers.
