British TV presenter Jonnie Irwin dead at 50; cause of death likely cancer

The famous British TV presenter, Jonnie Irwin, has passed away at the age of 50, after a long fight with terminal cancer.

Irwin was diagnosed with cancer in 2020, and his battle with the illness, which had spread to his brain and lungs, became public in the last two years.

A statement posted on his Instagram account to announce his passing also noted that he was known for his “kindness, warmth, and infectious spirit” and asked for privacy for his family as they deal with their immeasurable grief.

Despite initially being given just six months to live, the TV presenter defied the odds, disclosing his fight with cancer as a way to inspire others to “make the most of every day.”

Freeform Productions, the production company behind the show “A Place in the Sun,” also issued a statement on Twitter, expressing their deep sense of loss and hailing Irwin as a beloved part of the series.

The announcement of Jonnie Irwin’s death has led to an outpouring of grief and tributes from BBC, co-stars, friends, and fans all over the world.

He is survived by his wife Jessica and his three young children, Rex, Rafa, and Cormac. His passing has been felt deeply in the UK and across the TV presenting industry.
