Sammy Gyamfi criticises Kofi Bentil for asking Ghanaians to give Bawumia a chance

The National Communications Officer of the NDC, Sammy Gyamfi, has criticized Kofi Bentil for suggesting that Ghanaians give the New Patriotic Party flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, a chance in the upcoming December elections.

According to Mr. Gyamfi, it is unnecessary for Kofi Bentil to make such a call at this point. In a Facebook post, Gyamfi argued that Dr. Bawumia had already been given a fair hearing in 2016 during his numerous lectures and forums.

Gyamfi emphasized that Dr. Bawumia, as the chairman of the Economic Management Team, should be taking concrete actions to revive the economy rather than engaging in lectures. Despite this, Gyamfi asserted that Dr. Bawumia has failed significantly and cannot be trusted with the highest office in the land to govern the country.

On the other hand, Kofi Bentil called on Ghanaians to attentively listen to the NPP flagbearer during his scheduled public lecture on February 7. He emphasized that Dr. Bawumia, having never been president before, deserves an opportunity, similar to the chance given to John Mahama in 2012. Bentil expressed confidence in Dr Bawumia’s potential as a good president, urging Ghanaians to consider voting for him in the upcoming December elections.

But Sammy Gyamfi will have none of Mr. Bentil’s admonition. In a direct response on Facebook, Mr Gyamfi laid out his reasons for disagreeing with Mr. Bentil. He reminded Mr. Bentil that Ghanaians have already given Dr. Bawumia ample hearing in 2016 and that it’s time for action, not more rhetoric.

The exchange highlights the increasing tensions and polarization as the country gears up for the upcoming elections. Gyamfi’s assertion of Dr. Bawumia’s failure and Bentil’s confidence in his potential as a president are two opposing stances that are sure to become frequent talking points in the national conversation as the elections draw near.
