Pecan Energies, in partnership with African Finance Corporation (AFC), has announced the awarding of full scholarships worth GH¢5.5million to 70 students for the 2023/24 academic year.

These scholarships are specifically aimed at brilliant students from low-income households. The Pecan Inspire Scholarship Program (PISP) has been designed to provide opportunities for financially disadvantaged students to pursue various courses at tertiary institutions across the country.

The addition of 70 new students has brought the total number of beneficiaries to 141, highlighting the impact that the program is making in the lives of deserving students. The scholarship covers full tuition and lodging fees, along with a laptop for academic work and a semester stipend. In addition, it offers various student development programs, including career and skills training, as well as mentoring and academic advising.

According to Kadijah Amoah, CEO of Pecan Energies Ghana Limited, the company’s commitment to investing in education as a means of unlocking prosperity remains unflinching. With new owners in AFC, the company is poised to make the necessary investments to ensure that more young people are equipped with the necessary skills to contribute to Ghana’s economic development.

The PISP serves as the flagship Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative for Pecan Energies and its license partners, including Lukoil Overseas Ghana Tano Limited, the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), and Fueltrade Limited. It aims to improve access to tertiary education for Ghanaians and has replaced the previous Pecan Energies Senior High School Scholarship program.

Notably, at least 40% of the beneficiaries selected for the 2023/2024 academic year are female, reflecting a commitment to gender inclusivity and equality. The program also aims to prioritize investments in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), with over 85% of beneficiaries currently studying various STEM-related programs.

One of the beneficiaries, Jennifer Apingu, who worked as a head porter (Kayayo) to fund her Senior High School education, expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to pursue her dream of becoming a pharmacist. She emphasized the significance of the scholarship in enabling her to pursue her studies and contribute to society.

Overall, the Pecan Inspire Scholarship Program is a remarkable example of private sector-led initiatives aimed at advancing education and creating opportunities for deserving students in Ghana. Through this program’s continued success, Pecan Energies and its partners are committed to building a brighter future for the country and its youth.
