Bia West District pupils now have a premiere Artificial Intelligence Laboratory.
The lab was established by the Coral Reef Hub to promote STEM education in the area. This will provide equitable access to cutting-edge technology for the community’s students who previously had to rely on an under-resourced makeshift IT lab.
The makeshift metallic laboratory for IT teaching and learning at Elluokrom D/A JHS in the Bia West District is now obsolete. The new lab will allow pupils to access technological advancement more effectively and improve their digital literacy skills.
District Director of Education, Thomas Kwofie, confirmed the inaccessibility of adequately resourced IT laboratories causing an impact on digital literacy and STEM education. The Coral Reef Innovation Hub and Bia West Cocoa Life Cooperative have partnered to provide the modern IT laboratory for the school.
The newly established 25-seater laboratory is equipped with cutting-edge IT tools, including tablets and robotic materials. It aims to expose pupils to digital literacy skills while ensuring inclusive and equitable access to education, benefitting over 450 pupils in the district weekly.
Managing Partner of Coral Reef Innovation Hub, Richard Osei Anim, stated their aim to prepare students for international competitions, exposing them not only to coding and robotics but also Artificial Intelligence. The new centre is poised to facilitate economic growth by attracting investors to the area.
The centre is expected to upscale to a 50-seater to accommodate more students in the subsequent years. This initiative is part of the hub’s mission to revolutionize education in Africa by providing cutting-edge technology and training programs for students and teachers.
