A 36-year-old man, known as Nii, from Kasoa in the Awutu Senya East Municipality, has been accused of killing his ex-wife, Afua Patricia.

The tragic incident occurred at Sehwi Yerepemso in the Bia West District of the Western North Region.

According to Baba Solomon, the former Assemblyman of Papaasi electoral area, the murder took place on Sunday, February 18, 2024, between 7:30 am and 8:00 am, as the victim was on her way to prepare the church for the morning service.

Nii and Afua Patricia had been briefly married and had a one-and-a-half-year-old baby. After their union broke down, Afua returned to her mother at Sehwi Yerepemso. Baba Solomon revealed that Nii had continuously complained about Afua’s return to her mother’s place and used that as an excuse to cause trouble.

Every Sunday morning, Afua Patricia would go to the Church of Pentecost to tidy up the place before the service began. Unfortunately, on one of these Sundays, she encountered her ex-husband and ex-boyfriend, who had been in the village for about two weeks. They attacked and stabbed her in various parts of her body, leading to her tragic death.

Afua’s mother grew concerned when her daughter did not show up for the church service, and went looking for her. She encountered Nii on her way, and he misled her about Afua’s whereabouts.

Concerned, the mother went to report her daughter’s absence to the village committee, which detained Nii when he could not provide satisfactory answers about his wife’s whereabouts. The police were then called in to arrest Nii, and he eventually led them to where his wife’s body was.

Afua’s body has been deposited at the Sehwi Juaboso government hospital morgue, while Nii has been arrested by the police at Sehwi Adjofua. This tragic incident highlights the prevalence of gender-based violence and the need for better support systems for victims of abusive relationships.
