John Mahama, the flagbearer of the NDC, has emphasized the importance for the Minority in Parliament to oppose any government efforts that would increase hardships on Ghanaians before the December elections.

Speaking to Minority MPs in Ho in the Volta Region, he stressed the need for vigilance and oversight over a government that is attempting to impose tough policies on Ghanaians.

Mahama also stated that the party will not support the proposal for a change in the date for the 2024 elections from December to November. He maintained that the NDC does not believe the proposal is being made in good faith. During the Minority caucus meeting in Ho, he made these remarks, reiterating that the NPP was sensing clear defeat and is trying to undermine the credibility of the elections by proposing a change in the election date.

Furthermore, Mahama pointed out the lack of preparedness of the Electoral Commission, citing elementary lapses and logistical shortfalls in the District Assembly elections held in December last year. He highlighted that the commission had not demonstrated readiness to conduct the general elections.

These remarks by Mahama underscore the need for the Minority to be watchful and take a stand against the government’s policies that could exacerbate hardships on Ghanaians. As the country approaches the December elections, it is crucial for the opposition to fulfill its role in representing the interests of the people and ensuring a fair electoral process.
