Member of Parliament for Zebilla constituency, Hon. Cletus Avoka has made a controversial statement, suggesting that corruption is a necessary evil for MPs to maintain their seats in Parliament.

According to Avoka, MPs require resources to keep their seats in Parliament, which leads them to seek alternative means of generating revenue.

He emphasized that the pressure to maintain their seats often forces MPs to engage in corrupt practices in order to fund their campaigns and stay in power.

“If I’m not corrupt, how can I maintain my seat? You have to be corrupt in one way or another. You have to look for more resources. If you have to look for more resources, you have to go out. If you’re a contractor or a lawyer, you have to prepare a bill.

You have attention here, you have attention outside because I need more resources to be able to maintain my seat otherwise, you’ll be a one-term MP.

Many of those who are one-term or two-term MPs are not because they don’t know or they are not working. It’s because they are not dashing out money,” Avoka explained to Starr News.
