The Ghana Culture Forum (GCF) has made a public statement urging President John Dramani Mahama to carefully consider his selection for the minister of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts.
In a letter signed by General Secretary Edwina Assan, the GCF emphasized the importance of appointing a leader with a deep understanding of the culture and creative sector, as well as strong business acumen and a collaborative spirit.
The GCF expressed its support for the Black Star Experience and expressed a desire to work with relevant government entities to enhance the prospects of the culture and creative sector.
However, the GCF stressed the need for effective leadership within the ministry to ensure the sector’s growth and development.
Additionally, the GCF highlighted key concerns within the culture and creative sector, including the need for a comprehensive framework and clearer definition of roles for state institutions, a review of existing legislation, and improved research and data collection to assess the economic contributions of the sector.
The GCF also expressed readiness to support the government in organizing a national conference to address these issues and promote the development of Ghana’s cultural sector.
