Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, has recognized and commended a 22-year-old medical doctor, Dr. Kwaku Boakye Gyamfi, as a motivator for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education in Ghana. Dr. Adutwum announced that Dr. Gyamfi will be visiting pre-tertiary institutions nationwide to motivate students and share his personal experiences to encourage them to take their studies seriously.
During a courtesy call to the Education Minister in Accra, Dr. Adutwum praised Dr. Gyamfi for his commitment to his studies and attaining such a feat. He also commended Dr. Gyamfi’s parents for their support towards his education, which has contributed to his success. Dr. Adutwum emphasized that Dr. Gyamfi’s story is worthy of emulation by the youth and will serve as motivation for others to study hard, regardless of their course of study.
Dr. Gyamfi expressed his gratitude to the Minister for the warm reception and assured the ministry of his commitment to motivate senior high school students to pursue STEM courses. As the overall best-graduating student in surgery at the 5th session of the 56th Congregation of the UCC School of Medical Sciences in September 2023, Dr. Gyamfi remains dedicated to supporting quality healthcare delivery in the country.
The recognition of Dr. Gyamfi and his appointment as a motivator for STEM education demonstrates the strides being made in the nation’s education sector. Dr. Adutwum pledged to continue working hard to help transform the nation through education. This initiative comes at a time when aligning educational and career goals is crucial for the achievement of sustainable development in Ghana.
