We’ve not been served any injunction – CEO of Ghana Trade Fair Company on Fantasy Dome demolition

The CEO of the Ghana Trade Fair Company Limited, Dr Agnes Adu, has clarified that the company has not received any legal documents preventing them from demolishing the Fantasy Dome. This follows claims by the CEO of Fantasy Entertainment, Leslie Quaynor, that the court had instructed the Trade Fair company to stop dismantling the dome.

In an exclusive interview with Joy FM’s Kwame Dadzie, Dr Adu stated, “Ghana Trade Fair Company Limited has not been served with any court process. I am not sure what you have sighted but there are company addresses that are listed at the registry. I, the CEO have an address, the company has an address and none of us have been served with any notices or any court processes at all.”

According to Dr Adu, the demolition was necessary to make way for the site’s redevelopment. She mentioned that the redevelopment of the Trade Fair Centre has been ongoing for some time, and all previous tenants, including the owners of Fantasy Dome, had been given notice to vacate the premises.

“The Fantasy Dome was the lone person holding out and refusing to move. After 15 months of consistently giving notices to the owners of the Fantasy Dome, the owners and the developers had no choice but to dismantle so that we can continue with the work,” Dr Adu explained.

Responding to the demolition, Mr Quaynor revealed that his lease had expired, and he was in the process of relocating the dome to another venue. Despite seeking an extension, the Trade Fair disagreed, leading Mr Quaynor to request a writ and an injunction at an Accra High Court to halt the demolition exercise.

Dr Adu further clarified that the tenancy agreement with Fantasy Entertainment was signed for a five-year period, which ended on December 31, 2024. She emphasized that no permanent structures were allowed to be constructed, and Fantasy Entertainment was given a six-month notice to vacate the site when redevelopment began.

The Ghana Trade Fair Company’s CEO expressed that efforts had been made to accommodate Mr Quaynor, including interventions from the Minister of Trade, but he had failed to vacate the site. She noted that the Fantasy Dome structure had hindered the redevelopment work on the site.

Dr Adu reiterated that the Trade Fair Company had been accommodating throughout the process and had followed the necessary protocols regarding the tenancy agreement and redevelopment plans.
