VGMA 2023: Black Sherif bags 4 awards; crowned ‘Artiste of The Year’

Ghanaian afrobeats, hip-hop, and highlife artist, Black Sherif has been crowned ‘Artiste of the Year’ at the 2023 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.

Black Sherif, who dominated the 2022-2023 calendar year with his album, ‘The Villian I Never Was’, bagged the highest award at the ceremony held at the Accra International Conference Centre on Saturday, May 6, 2023.

He won the coveted accolade after beating his strong competitors; Stonebwoy, Sarkodie
King Promise, Camidoh, Kidi, Piesie Esther, and Joe Mettle.

Black Sherif picked up three more awards on the night. He won the ‘Vodafone Most Popular Song of the Year’ award with his hit single ‘Kweku the Traveller’. He further won the ‘Best Hip-hop Song of the Year’ award with the same song.  He completed the memorable career night with the ‘Best Music Video of the Year’ award with the official music video for ‘Konongo Zongo.’

The rapper cum singer dominated many local and international charts and stages last year his maiden album. Aside from his international hit single ‘Kweku the Traveller,’ other hot singles like ‘Oh Paradise,’ ‘Soja’ and ’45,’ which come off his album dominated the airwaves.

After winning the award, he tweeted a photo of Kumawood veteran actor Chinedu Ikedieze (Aki) bending his head.

He ended the night with an excellent live band performance. Congratulations to Black Sherif and his management team.
