The media can do better in promoting female artists – Abiana

Renowned Ghanaian singer and songwriter, Eldah Naa Abiana Dickson, known in the music scene as Abiana, has called on music producers, event organizers, and media personalities to step up in promoting female musicians in Ghana.

During an interview on Onua Showbiz with Nana Kwame Gyan, Abiana expressed her admiration for Becca’s return to music after taking time off to focus on her family. She sees Becca as an inspiration for female artists who aspire to balance their music career with other aspects of life.

Abiana highlighted the dominance of male musicians in the industry, attributing it to the media’s preference for promoting male artists over their female counterparts. She believes that this bias discourages many talented female musicians from pursuing their dreams.

In an effort to promote gender equality in the music industry, Abiana suggested that radio stations and media outlets should allocate equal airtime to male and female musicians. This, she believes, will create a level playing field for female artists to showcase their talent.

As an award-winning artist, Abiana was recognized with the Best Female Vocal Performance award at the 2021 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards. Her passion for music and advocacy for female empowerment continue to inspire the music community.

By advocating for the promotion of Ghanaian female musicians, Abiana hopes to pave the way for more women to succeed in the music industry.
