TGMA should create ‘music institution of the year’ category for Stonebwoy – MC portfolio

The prestigious Telecel Ghana Music Awards is fast approaching, with many artists vying for the coveted Artiste of the Year award. However, Ghanaian media personality and master of ceremonies, MC Portfolio, has made it clear that in his opinion, Stonebwoy deserves to win the ultimate prize.

In a recent interview with Kwame Dadzie on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z, MC Portfolio expressed his belief that Stonebwoy’s achievements far outweigh those of other contenders, such as King Promise, who has garnered significant social media support for the award.

According to MC Portfolio, Stonebwoy’s accomplishments, including his electrifying show at the Accra Sports Stadium, the release of his 5th Dimension album, and his successful tour, set him apart from the competition. He emphasized that Stonebwoy “over-qualifies” to be named the Artiste of the Year.

While acknowledging King Promise’s talent and contributions to the music industry, MC Portfolio argued that recent performances outside the 2023 calendar year should not be the sole basis for choosing the winner. He criticized individuals like Baba Sadiq for pushing an agenda based on recency rather than merit.

The criteria for the Artiste of the Year award at the Ghana Music Awards include audience appeal, popularity, hit releases, and nominations. Stonebwoy is up against tough competition, including Kuami Eugene, Sarkodie, Nacee, and Black Sherif.

In addition to the Artiste of the Year category, Stonebwoy has also received nominations in multiple other categories, such as Most Popular Song of the Year, Record of the Year, International Collaboration of the Year, and Album of the Year.

The 25th Telecel Ghana Music Awards is scheduled to take place on June 1, 2025, at the Accra International Conference Centre. Alongside the Artiste of the Year award, other categories to be presented include Songwriter of the Year, Record of the Year, Collaboration of the Year, Most Popular Song of the Year, New Artiste of the Year, and Gospel Song of the Year.

As fans eagerly await the outcome of the awards ceremony, the debate over who should walk away with the Artiste of the Year trophy continues to divide opinions within the music industry. With MC Portfolio’s endorsement of Stonebwoy, the race for the top honor promises to be fiercely contested.
