The Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) board has announced revisions to the 2024 nominations list after receiving feedback from various stakeholders. The initial list, which was released in March 2024, raised concerns about errors and omissions, prompting a thorough review process.
Charterhouse, the show’s organizers, issued a press release disclosing that the board reevaluated all submissions and made corrections to two entries: “Lonely Road” by O’Kenneth & Xlim Kid and “Kwaku Ananse” by Amerado.
Regarding “Lonely Road,” nominated in the Collaboration of the Year category, Charterhouse clarified that the song was originally submitted as a featured work. However, after confirmation from the artists’ management, it was determined that “Lonely Road” was a joint project by O’Kenneth and Xlim Kid, not a featured track.
As for Amerado, his song “Kwaku Ananse” received an additional nomination in the Most Popular Song of the Year category following the review. Additionally, the original version of the song was selected for the Best Highlife Song award instead of the remix.
Charterhouse explained that the board nominated the “Kwaku Ananse” remix in the Best Highlife Song category, affecting its consideration in the Most Popular Song of the Year category. After reviewing the situation, the board decided to replace the remix version with the original song in the Best Highlife Category and also nominated it for the Most Popular Song of the Year Category.
The board assured all stakeholders of their commitment to fairness in the Telecel Ghana Music Awards and thanked them for their engagement in addressing the recent errors and omissions. The nominees for their outstanding work in 2023 were congratulated, with best wishes for the 25th-anniversary edition of the TGMA in the upcoming weeks.
