Ghanaian afrobeats and highlife artist Camidoh has revealed that he couldn’t believe his eyes when he saw his name in this year’s BET Awards nomination list.

The ‘Adoley’ hitmaker has been nominated in the Viewer’s Choice: Best New International Act category alongside other top international artists; Asake, Flo, Libianca, Maureen, Raye, MC Ryan SP, Pabi, Cooper, Raye, and Werenoi.

Upon hearing the news, Camidoh was thrown into a state of shock and he had to take some time to process the whole news.

“I am still in shock. I had to take time to really process it because this is a big blessing,” he told TV3 during an interview on Friday, June 9.

On whether he would win the award against another strong competitor like Nigeria’s Asake, Camidoh said he is confident and that his nomination alone proves he deserves it.

“I’m super confident about winning in my category. Everybody in the category stands a chance of winning,” he said. “Being nominated means I stand an equal chance as everyone else nominated in the category. I’d like to call everyone who is in support of my career to vote for me.”

The singer also talked about keeping his brand in shape and afloat and the strategy he would implement to seal his place on the international market.

According to him, he is ready to go on tours and create music that resonates with international audiences.

“I feel like that shock comes once, just like they said opportunity comes once in a lifetime,” he said.

He recalls: “When my ‘Sugarcane’ started doing well on the international scene, we decided that this was the opportunity to [grab attention] and properly promote myself. We would do shows and travel all over the African continent for media tours. At some point, we would even put our own money into traveling.”

“The goal is to be globally cemented. I feel like I should do music to appeal to the whole globe,” he concluded.
