Ghanaian band Kwan Pa, known for their palm wine highlife music, is delving into the world of film with their upcoming movie, ‘Sweet Palmwine’. The premiere is set for October 26, 2024, at the Silverbird Cinemas in Accra.

In an interview with Kwame Dadzie on Showbiz A-Z on Joy FM, Asah Nkansah, the band’s leader, explained that the movie project aims to showcase and preserve palm wine highlife music.

The decision to create a movie stemmed from their EP release, where they decided to intertwine the stories from their songs into a feature film.

The movie, reminiscent of Egbert Adjesu’s 1970 film ‘I Told You So’, combines drama, music, and elements of romantic comedy suitable for all age groups. Produced by Wahala Entertainment, the film features a star-studded cast including Aaron Adatsi, Pascaline Edwards, Fred Amugi, and Willie Chambers.

The band has organized two screenings at both the Accra Mall and Westhills Mall venues of Silverbird Cinemas, with shows starting at 7 pm and 9 pm. Tickets are selling for 100 cedis each.

Kwan Pa, established in 2017, has gained popularity for their traditional yet modern approach to palm-wine highlife music. With a unique blend of kpalongo drums, atumpan, gome drum, rattle, twin bell, and acoustic guitar, the band captivates audiences with their authentic sound.
