Veteran Ghanaian actor, Fred Amugi, recently expressed his frustrations with the ongoing legal battles over the leadership of the Actors Guild of Ghana.

These disputes have had a negative impact on the growth and development of the movie industry in the country.

Amugi highlighted the importance of having a functioning and effective leadership in place to oversee the affairs of the actors and the industry as a whole. Since the passing of Reverend Eddie Coffie, the President of the guild in 2016, there have been delays in holding elections for new executives, resulting in a lack of direction and management for the industry.

In an interview with Graphic Showbiz, Amugi emphasized the need for the Guild to resolve their differences and come together for the betterment of the industry. He noted that the film industry has suffered from power struggles and conflicts within the Actors Guild, leading to a decline in productivity and quality of productions.

Amugi also acknowledged the support from Akwaaba Magic on DStv, which has provided a platform for Ghanaian films. He praised the quality of films showcased on the channel and emphasized the importance of producing good content to benefit from such opportunities.

In comparison to Nigeria’s film industry, Amugi highlighted the need for collaboration and cooperation within the Ghanaian industry to produce high-quality films that can compete globally. He pointed out the advantages that Nigeria has with subscription-based streaming services like Netflix and stressed the importance of working together to catch up.
