Actress Fella Makafui is advocating for increased support for Ghanaian films, stressing the crucial role they play in the growth of the local movie industry.

Speaking on Hitz FM with Andy Dosty, she emphasized the significance of backing from both investors and fans to empower filmmakers.

Fella Makafui pointed out that a surge in public interest in Ghanaian films leads to financial benefits, allowing producers to fund future projects. “I feel it all boils down to the support. Because if I invite you to my movie and we have a successful premiere with a large turnout, we can generate revenue to produce another movie,” she explained.

The actress urged Ghanaians to channel more energy into supporting the craft, acknowledging the need for investors, including corporate entities, to assist films through product placement and other means.

Despite the challenges faced by movie producers, Fella Makafui remains hopeful about the industry’s potential for growth. She shared positive experiences from her recent productions, such as receiving support from musician Kuami Eugene free of charge, as a sign of progress.

“I am witnessing changes in the industry. Last year, when I co-produced the series ‘Serwaa’ with Farmhouse, it was a huge success. Even for this movie, the support has been overwhelming,” she expressed.
