Kumawood actor and musician Lil Win is facing the possibility of a five-year jail term or a hefty fine following his involvement in a tragic car accident that led to the death of a three-year-old child, according to private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu.
Lil Win has been charged with careless and inconsiderate driving and was granted a GHĀ¢50,000 bail with two sureties.
Martin Kpebu expressed his views on the matter, stating that while fines are common in such cases, imprisonment is also a possible outcome, especially in cases as severe as this one.
The legal practitioner emphasized the importance of stronger punishment to deter reckless driving in Ghana, where over 2000 lives are lost annually due to road accidents.
He believes that a stricter sentence would send a strong message and promote road safety.
Lil Win’s arrest came shortly after the accident, in which a three-year-old boy lost his life.
The actor was taken into custody by officers from the Motor Traffic and Transport Department of the Manhyia Divisional Command after being discharged from the hospital.
The family of the deceased child has been calling for justice, and Lil Win has been charged with dangerous driving and negligently causing harm.
The police cited ill-health as the reason for the delay in arresting him.
