Renowned media personality, Bridget Otoo, has made scathing remarks about GTV broadcasters, likening them to “sign language interpreters” in what seems to be a dig at their professionalism.

This criticism comes in the midst of speculation over a possible jab directed at fellow media personality, Nana Aba Anamoah, following allegations made by businessman Henry Fitz regarding an extramarital affair with Serwaa Amihere, a friend of Nana Aba.

The controversy stemmed from GTV Ghana’s decision on April 13 to celebrate one of its female journalists, Akushika Acquaye, who joined GBC in 1995 and eventually became the Acting Director of Television due to her hard work and dedication. The state media company described her as a “Woman of Valour,” highlighting her competence and character as qualities to be emulated by young journalists and women.

In response to this, a user known as @enyonvm expressed concerns, suggesting that the post was indirectly targeting another journalist. While the specific journalist was not mentioned, some social media users speculated that it was aimed at Nana Aba Anamoah, especially since she hosts a program called ‘Women of Valour’ aimed at inspiring women.

Bridget Otoo joined the conversation, echoing the sentiment of the aforementioned user and insinuating that GTV presenters might be attacking other presenters due to personal issues. She went on to suggest that it was not the fault of other journalists if GTV presenters come across as mere “sign language interpreters.”

However, Bridget faced backlash for her comments, with user @Setho criticizing her by stating that GTV presenters act and appear as sign language interpreters because they live within their means.

Despite the backlash, Bridget later issued a somewhat ‘insincere’ apology, emphasizing that being a sign language presenter is not worthwhile as viewers mainly focus on the main anchor.

Moreover, in light of Henry Fitz’s accusations against Nana Aba Anamoah, including allegations of attempting to seek favors for a fridge, Twitter users have raised questions about Nana Aba’s morals and sources of wealth.

This has added fuel to the ongoing controversy surrounding the media personalities involved.
