It has been five years since Zendaya last attended the Met Gala, but fans will be thrilled to know that the 27-year-old superstar is set to co-chair this year’s event.
Alongside Chris Hemsworth, Jennifer Lopez, Bad Bunny, and Anna Wintour, Zendaya will be at the star-studded affair on May 6, which will be themed “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.”
The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s exhibition theme, curated by The Costume Institute, will feature 250 items from their permanent collection. The gala will showcase some of the most memorable styles and wildest designs that fashion fans can expect to see all year.
To celebrate Zendaya’s return as a co-chair, let’s look back at some of her past amazing Met Gala looks.
In 2015, Zendaya made her debut in a striking Fausto Puglisi gown, featuring a red and black color scheme with stunning sun design embellishments on the skirt. She accessorized with a golden tiara covered in smaller suns, creating a cohesive and standout look.
For the 2016 Met Gala, with the theme “Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology,” Zendaya wore a retro-futuristic metallic gown designed by Michael Kors, paired with some Jorge Adeler rings. Her quasi-sci-fi hairstyle perfectly complemented the ensemble.
In 2017, Zendaya rocked a colorful Dolce & Gabbana gown at the event celebrating the avant-garde work of Japanese designer Rei Kawakubo. The tropical parrot print gown was a true work of art and despite some debate on how well it fit the theme, Zendaya looked flawless.
Embracing the theme “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination” in 2018, Zendaya wore an Atelier Versace chainmail-inspired gown evoking the spirit of Joan of Arc.
Her standout moment in 2019 was when she arrived wearing a literal glowing gown inspired by Cinderella. The Tommy Hilfiger dress shimmered in shades of silver and light blue, lighting up in the dark. She styled her hair like the Disney princess and carried an adorable purse shaped like the pumpkin coach.
The star-studded Met Gala, known as The Costume Institute Benefit, will take place on May 6, 2024, serving as the primary source of funding for the Costume Institute’s operating budget.
