Shakira, the 47-year-old Colombian superstar, has released her new album, “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran,” which translates to “women no longer cry,” and it has already broken records as the highest streamed album of the year.
The singer explained the meaning behind the title on Monday’s “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” emphasizing the empowerment of women to control their emotions and heal on their terms.
Following her split from longtime partner Gerard Piqué in 2022, Shakira joked about the breakup, stating that it gave her the freedom to focus on her music without the “husband factor” holding her back. Despite the emotional turmoil of the breakup, she found solace in her music, describing each song on the album as a form of catharsis.
Shakira also involved her two sons, Milan and Sasha, in the album, joking that they are “asking for royalties” to save up for a car in the future.
In a recent interview with Zane Lowe for Apple Music 1, Shakira shared her new perspective on making music as a single mother, expressing that the absence of a husband has actually fueled her creativity and desire to create music.
