A security guard was shot outside the home of Canadian rapper Drake in Toronto overnight, according to police reports. The incident took place around 2:00 AM EDT on Tuesday at the corner of the Park Lane Circle mansion. The suspects, who were in a vehicle, shot the guard before fleeing the scene.
It is unclear if Drake was present at home during the shooting or if he was the target of the attack. The rapper is currently engaged in a feud with US rap rival Kendrick Lamar, but police have stated that it is too early in their investigation to determine a motive for the shooting.
The Integrated Gun and Gang Task Force is in contact with Drake’s team, who are cooperating with the investigation. They are currently reviewing video footage of the incident, but details are not being released due to video quality issues.
The victim is in serious condition and is receiving treatment at the hospital. Witnesses reported that he sustained multiple gunshot wounds, including one to the chest.
Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow condemned the shooting, stating that any form of violence is unwelcome in the city. She expressed hope that the perpetrators will be apprehended by the police.
The ongoing feud between Drake and Lamar has escalated with the release of “diss tracks” targeting each other. Lamar’s song, Not Like Us, accuses Drake of misconduct, which the Canadian rapper has vehemently denied in his response, The Heart Part 6.
Drake’s house, located in the Bridle Path neighborhood of Toronto, is at the center of the controversy, as it is depicted in Lamar’s song cover art. Police have cordoned off the property as they investigate the shooting.
Representatives of both artists have been contacted for comments on the incident.
