Sean Kingston found himself in legal trouble as he was arrested in California, just hours after his mother was taken into custody in Florida. An arrest warrant was issued for the singer following a raid on a mansion he was renting in South Florida. The Broward Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Kingston will be booked into jail in San Bernardino, California.
Earlier in the day, Kingston’s mother, Janice Turner, was also arrested at the same residence on fraud and theft charges. The arrest warrants were served at a Southwest Ranches residence as part of an ongoing investigation.
Kingston had taken to his Instagram Stories before his arrest to reassure his followers, stating, “People love negative energy! I am good and so is my mother! My lawyers are handling everything as we speak.”
The raid on the Florida home stemmed from a lawsuit between Ver Ver Entertainment and Kingston, filed in February. The lawsuit alleges that Kingston failed to pay for purchased items from the company, making false representations and claiming to have a working relationship with Justin Bieber, which was found to be untrue.
The complaint further accuses Kingston of breaching his contract by not paying as agreed, citing his history of engaging in fraudulent conduct. Ver Ver Entertainment claimed that judgments were entered against Kingston in the past for acquiring items worth over a million dollars without payment.
Attorney Dennis Card, who filed the lawsuit against Kingston, stated that they had been waiting for the raid for more than two months. The investigation and legal proceedings are ongoing as Kingston faces fraud and theft charges.
